Library

Our school library endeavours to provide both a physical and operating environment that ensures the library plays an integral role in the teaching and learning process of all members of the school community. Our School Library is a major resource for the attainment of key competencies, which underpin the skills for lifelong learning.

Student learning will be enriched by the provision of our Library service and our dynamic Information Skills and Literature programs. Our aim is to encourage a love of literature in our school community.

At St. Patrick’s, our Teacher Librarian, Mrs Aileen Reed and our Library Assistant, Mrs Margaret Bunker are committed to providing the school community with the best possible literature and access to the world of information. All children borrow from our school library each week. They require a fabric library bag so that library books are kept in good condition. Library bags are available for sale at the school front office.

Library Lessons

All classes have scheduled library lessons one day a week with the Teacher Librarian, Mrs Reed, to develop their information skills and literature appreciation. Our library has a SmartBoard and a bank of computers for student use. The library is well resourced with a good range of fiction and non-fiction books for both senior and junior students. Each class has a different library lesson and borrowing day; please see the Library Timetable (located in the Documents Library) for more details.

NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

All students are encouraged during library lessons and library borrowing to join the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC).  Joining “The Challenge” contributes to the student becoming a life-long learner with a love for reading. See the Documents Library for a list of 2014s NSW Premier Reading Challenge book lists sorted by year groups K-2, 3-4, 5-6.
